Letter from Tokyo English Life Line

Tokyo English Life Line was founded in 1973 as an all-volunteer telephone crisis counseling line. In 1991, TELL expanded its services to include face-to-face professional counseling. Fees are on a sliding scale to ensure that no one in need is turned away for financial reasons.

TELL is affiliated with the Federation of Inochi-no-Denwa and accredited by Life Line International and the Samaritan Institute, a US-based standards organization for counselling centers.

This February TELL moved to Minami Aoyama in order to be more accessible to our clientele, our counselors and our volunteer force. This move will allow us to continue to efficiently and expeditiously expand our community outreach programs, lectures, workshops and liaison activities to the international schools and family organizations.

Our address and phone numbers are as follows;

The second largest population of TELL clients are Japanese, many of whom are Returnees. You can see that TELL is serving not to the foreign, but to the international community.

TELL's activities are supported by a lot of volunteers. Please read TELL Activity Description and consider participating in our activities. You will meet many nice and interesting people of the community. As you may imagine, since TELL is operating in Japan, bilingual volunteers are of great help. I appreciate if you fill in TELL Information Sheet and send it to Deborah Twist c/o TELL office.

I thank you for reading this message and thinking about TELL.

Best wishes,

Tsuyoshi Akiyama, M.D. Psychiatrist
